What is Postcards from the Edge?
Postcards from the Edge is an annual benefit sale and exhibition by Visual AIDS to benefit our work.
Now in its 28th year, Postcards From the Edge is known within the art world as the most exciting and affordable way to add to a collection, offering a unique opportunity for buyers to acquire original, postcard-sized artwork for ONLY $100 EACH.
It’s a fun way of bringing a community of artists from across the globe together to support artists living with HIV and the legacies of those lost to AIDS by donating original, small scale works that are exhibited and sold at a partner gallery each year.
Offered on a first-come, first-served basis, each piece is exhibited anonymously, and the identity of the artist is revealed only after the work is purchased. With the playing field leveled, all participants can take home a piece by a famous artist, or one who's just making their debut in the art world. Join us–save the date for our sale in January.
Why do we do it? Because AIDS is not over!
Our 2026 edition comes at a crucial time for HIV, AIDS and art, and the funds raised are vital to sustaining our mission.
Over 40 years into the AIDS epidemic and amidst new waves of AIDS denialism, Visual AIDS remains responsive to the needs of the artists we support while championing contemporary dialogue around HIV and AIDS.
Through the renowned Visual AIDS Archive, public exhibitions and programs, publications, anti-stigma initiatives, film commissions, direct financial support to artists, and research projects, we document and activate the lives of HIV-positive artists and the legacies of the AIDS activist movement throughout New York City and the globe. Our work supports practices outside of the mainstream market, creates new scholarship on and access for artists, and provides fresh contexts to these rich histories for intergenerational audiences.
We reach over 125,000 artists and audiences across socioeconomic, age, gender, and racial identities every year. Our work is for everyone: artists and curators; educators and scholars; the living and the dead, across generations; healthcare workers; family members; the general public; and people who aren’t yet thinking about HIV.
Postcards From the Edge is an opportunity for artists of all backgrounds to connect to the mission of Visual AIDS while sharing their work with new collectors; for collectors to be introduced to new work that moves them; and for our rich community to come together to support artists living with HIV and the legacies of those lost to AIDS.
Our work has always been steeped in community, and Postcards from the Edge is a fun and accessible way for artists to give back, for new and established collectors to bring home affordable and quality artwork, and for our larger community to gather together.
All Postcards From the Edge proceeds support the programs of Visual AIDS.
